Terms & Conditions

  1. By submitting an entry, the student agrees to the terms of the entry form and the competition rules and certifies that:

    1. They have consent from a parent or legal guardian to enter

    2. The work is their own and doesn’t use any copyright material (e.g. pictures, video or music)

  2. Videos must be no more than 90 seconds in length and uploaded before 5pm, Friday 16 June 2023.

    1. No late entries will be considered

    2. Only one entry per student will be accepted

    3. Entries containing offensive languages and/or materials will be disqualified

    4. Schools and/or parents will be notified of any concerning or distressing entries. Schools and/or parents will be notified of any distressing entries. This includes discussion of any sensitive topics which disclose personal health or mental health issues, or discuss harm or risk to young person/s. Prize winning students may be asked to edit/re-film statements before entry is published to Parliament of Victoria's social media.

  3. Entrants must be Victorian residents and must be currently undertaking Grades 5 to Year 12 in Victoria.

  4. Where a single entry is produced by more than one student, one student should be nominated as the key contact. Other contact information (such as names, email addresses and phone numbers can be entered in the description). Alternatively, a teacher/parent may upload the entry on the students' behalf. In the event of a winning group entry, all related prize money will be sent to the school, which will take responsibility for distributing relevant amounts to individuals.

  5. Home-schooled students are eligible for the individual student prizes, but not the school-based prizes.

  6. All entrants are required to provide certain personal information to complete an entry form. This personal information will be used only for the purposes of the competition and within all applicable data protection and privacy laws.

  7. Confirmation of permission for prize-winning entries to be posted on the Victorian Parliament’s website and social media will be sought from winning students and their parents/guardians prior to the winners being announced. Permission may also be sought for prize-winning students to participate in any official presentations, interviews, or photographs. Any interviews and photographs will be used for promotional purposes relating to Parliament’s education and community engagement programs.

  8. The competition is operated and managed by the Parliament of Victoria.

    1. Immediate family members of the Parliament of Victoria, staff of members of the Parliament of Victoria, and employees of the Parliament of Victoria are ineligible to enter

  9. The winning students and school will be notified and, if possible, will be presented with their prizes and trophies at a ceremony at Parliament House on a date to be advised. If the ceremony cannot take place, prizes and trophies will be sent to students and schools.

  10. Entries will be securely stored for the duration of the competition, and permanently deleted once the competition period, including the announcement and presentation of winners, has been completed. This does not include prize-winning entries.

  11. Members of Parliament may ask to view entries from students in their electorate and will be able to view relevant videos, accompanied by the title of the video and student name.

  12. If Members of Parliament wish to have any correspondence with a student (for example, to acknowledge a student’s participation) the Member will be directed to send correspondence through the school or parent. However, participation in the Parliament Prize does not guarantee correspondence with a Member of Parliament.


Judging criteria

The judges will look for entries that demonstrate:

  • A clearly articulated message

  • Interesting insights, ideas and/or perspectives

  • A clear understanding of why this issue or idea is important


Prizes

  • A prize of $500 and a commemorative trophy will be awarded to the first-placed entry in each category. There will also be prizes of $250 to the second-placed entries and $125 to the third-placed entries in each age group.

  • An award of $1,000 will be made to each first-placed student’s school which should ideally be used to promote civics and citizenship and law-related education within those schools, at the schools’ discretion.

  • All finalists' entries will be uploaded to the Parliament of Victoria’s website and social media pages, and by submitting an entry, students give permission for this to occur. Confirmation of this permission will be sought prior to posting.


Winning entries

Winners will be announced via the Victorian Parliament's website and social media in early August, and will be presented with their prizes in a special ceremony at Parliament House, on a date to be advised.
